Bill's grandmother "Big Mama" Maud Black was my mommas friend. As children I played with and went on picnics with her grand children. Then Bill started school in Huntsville. I saw Bill precisely three times in the four decades subsequent to our truncated family connection. The occasions were completely spontaneous: at a grocery store, exiting the Hobby Center after an event, and at his home when I stopped by to talk to Janette about San Jacinto College business. Upon each occasion, Bill's loving spirit and kindly nature swept the years away and I was returned to a time when we spent weekends in each other's homes and regularly enjoyed each other's company. I treasure his friendship, honor his place in my life, and mourn his passing. The world is a better place for his contributions to it. May he rest in peace. Lovingly, Chris Drake
The Plemmons/Howard and the Jacobson/Smith/Young families have made a lifetime of memories together. How awesome it was to share in the glory days of Market Street Baptist Church and then later the splendid days at Woodforest Baptist Church! Ours is a rich history of family friendships!
Our sweet friend Bill has gone to join the patriarchs of our families. He is no doubt
spending time renewing the relationship shared for so many years. We will miss the warmth, the humor, the sincerity, and the service of our friend Bill. What a privilege it was to call him our "friend." Bill was an excellent example of what a follower of Jesus Christ should look like!
Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Janette, Katharine, Regina, Chris, Blake and Ashley, along with all the rest of the family. We hope to have more special times together. We love you!
