Wanda Lee Poteet Chitty's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother,
grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother, Wanda Lee
Poteet Chitty, 93, of Baytown Texas. She quietly entered eternal rest on Monday,
December 16, 2024, with her daughter, Renee, and granddaughter Karissa by her
side. Wanda was born on November 23, 1931, in Baytown, Texas where she lived
her entire life. She attended and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and
was a proud member of the drill team, the Brigadiers.
After graduation, Lee met the love of her life, Charles Wilbur Chitty (Charlie) and
they were married on Jan 1st, 1948. Soon after, they settled down to start their
family of three children, Sammy, Renee, and Tina.
While being a stay-at-home mom raising her children, Lee was involved with PTA,
volunteered as a team mom for Sammy’s sports, traveled around town getting
Renee and Tina to lessons and after school events. She somehow had time to
have a beautiful yard with her flower and vegetable gardening, always had sewing
projects, many creative hobbies such as pottery and painting and loved reading a
good novel. She was also an exceptionally talented musician and would often fill
their home with the beautiful sound of her playing the piano. She loved traveling
and went to several interesting destinations such as Italy, Bahama’s, Alaska,
Canada, and many US states. She and Charlie would take the children on vacation
every year whether it was camping in Port Aransas or loading up the car for a long
road trip out of state. Lee also worked at Exxon in the refinery lab for many years
until her retirement. She loved her job and all the friends she made during her
many years there.
Lee had a collection of cookbooks and enjoyed cooking, baking, and trying new
recipes. She loved having guests over for dinner and would set the most beautiful,
elegant table to serve her latest gourmet creations. Having friends and family
around was especially important to her and made her the happiest. She and
Charlie had many friends that they played dominos with and went dancing
together often. Dancing and music were her two favorite passions until she was
blessed with grandchildren, which became her first love. She would have the
family over every holiday, birthday parties, Cajun boils, summer swim parties and
any other reason she could think of to have the family together. Lee also had
several pets along the way and took in strays that just needed a forever family.
She had so much love to share and had such a zest for life! Those who knew her
will remember and cherish that beautiful smile and laughing eyes that she always
greeted her loved ones with.
Wanda Lee is preceded in death by her parents Arthur Lee and Mary Alma
Poteet. She is survived by son Sammy Chitty and wife Sandy, daughters Renee
Leonard, Tina Cargill, and husband Ken. Grandchildren Bryan Dickens, Karissa
Rodriguez and husband Eric, Tessa Lawson and husband Brian, Jason Lantz and
wife Melissa, Jeff Chitty and wife Renee, Kaylee Shelby, and husband
Clifton. Great Grandchildren, Cameron Contreras, Kaiyah Rodriguez, Seth Dickens,
Ireland Lantz and husband Zach, Chance DuBose and wife Erin, Henna DuBose,
Chloe DuBose, Kenton Speir, Matthew, Zachary, and Hannah Chitty. A great, great
grandson, Zane Chitty, and great, great granddaughter, Guinevere DuBose.
Graveside services for the family will be at 2:30 on December 28th, 2024, at San
Jacinto Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 14659 East Freeway, Houston, TX
