Mary Marie Ellerbe's Obituary
Mary Marie Ellerbe, known lovingly as Marie, Mom, or Ma, was born in Gonzales Texas on February 18th, 1944 and passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her daughters, Janet and Terry and sons-in-law, John and Mike.
Ma was the only daughter of Henry and Nettie and was raised alongside her three brothers: Junior, Cotton and Walter.
She married young and quickly became a devoted mother to Janet and Terry. Ma and her husband, Vernon Ellerbe (also know as Pa) made a striking pair and shared a deep and lasting love until his passing in December of 1989.
Ma worked at Epps and Rice supermarkets in the courtesy booth, where she built lasting friendships.
She found joy in trips to the beach and state parks, quick visits to the casinos, and time spent with dear friends and neighbors in North Shore and Manvel.
Ma had a contagious chuckle and twinkle in her eye, especially when she was with loved ones, reminiscing about the past, or listening to the one that got away, Conway Twitty.
Ma loved her grandchildren: Justin, Clegg, Shelly, Trey, and Hayden. She attended ball games, hosted sleepovers and always made time to talk on the phone.
Later in life, Ma found love again with Charles, who became her husband, fishing partner, and travel companion. And gained a bonus son, Ronnie. They shared a strong bond and cared for one another until Charles’ passing in 2023.
When her mother fell ill, Ma became her primary caregiver, surrounding her with family and attentive care. Years later, that same devotion was returned, especially by her daughter Terry, who supported Ma through her final years.
Ma was blessed with time spent with her great-grandchildren: Riley, Harrison, Jay, Jaycie, Jessa, Ethan, Allison, Kennedy and Avery.
She will be remembered for her strength, her warmness, her friendship and for all the laughs she shared with the ones she loved.
She is proceeded in death by her mother and father, three brothers, Vernon, Charles and her late son-in-law, Terrell Simpson.
Pallbearers: Justin Meadors, Trey Meadors, Ethan Dodd, Hayden Hester, Clegg Simpson and Shelly Simpson.
Officiant: Mike Hester
