Marice enjoyed reading, learning and sharing her knowledge, traveling, the theatre, concerts, and playing games with her family and friends. Marice loved the Lord and tried to live her life to be pleasing unto Him and to bring honor to the parents she loved.
Marice was the Director of the Health Information Management Program at Lee College for 31 years. She was called to consult and help with other colleges as they were starting up their programs. She also coded medical records for Memorial Hermann TIRR and PARC Hospital for over 20 years. Prior to her most recent employment, Marice was the Director of Medical Records for several area hospitals. She also taught at DeZavela Elementary School in Channelview, TX.
Marice was well educated. She earned degrees and certificates in Education and Health information management. These include:
· RHIA – Registered Health Information Administration
· CCS – Certified Coding Specialist
· CMT – Certified Medical Transcriptionist
· ICD-10 - CM/PCS Trainer
Marice was a member of several organizations including
· AHIMA – American Health Information Management Association
· TXHIMA – Texas Health Information Management Association
· HAHIMA – Houston Area Health Information Management Association (recently awarded an honorary lifetime membership)
· AHDI – Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity
· PHIA – Professional Healthcare Institute of America

· Alpha Eta Society – University of Texas Medical Branch
Marice held an Associate of Science, two Bachelor of Science, (University of Texas and University of Houston), a Master of Science and lacked only the dissertation to complete her Doctorate which she was working toward when Tropical Storm Allison devastated the Houston area including the homes of several family members. Typical of Marice, she selflessly decided that money, time, and energy spent towards her Doctorate could be put to better use helping family left homeless by the storm.
Marice gave up her own dreams and made financial sacrifices to help others in need throughout her life. She had a special giving nature and a heart of gold. She touched many lives and all of our lives are better because of Marice and the life she lived.
God bless her beautiful soul. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart;
and you shall find rest for your soul. For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.”
- Matthew 11:28-30
