Amparo Cortez, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 70.
Born on October 11, 1954, in Fco I. Madero, Coahuila, Mexico, Amparo was the cherished daughter of Andrés Lomas Lazcano and Delfina Peréz Pimentel. On April 30, 1973, she married the love of her life, Victor Cortez, in Corpus Christi, Texas, beginning a lifelong journey of devotion and family.
Amparo found joy in the simple pleasures of life—cheering on her favorite team, the Houston Astros, and spending treasured moments with her children and grandchildren. Her warmth, laughter, and unwavering love created a home filled with comfort and connection.
She is survived by her children Veronica Caballero of Houston, TX, Anthony Cortez and wife Erika Cortez of Crosby, TX, George Cortez and wife Mireya Cortez of Kingwood, TX.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Arianna and Christopher Caballero; Emily, Brenda, Madeleen, Nevaeh, Julian, Jeremiah, and Vanessa Cortez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Cortez; her son-in-law, Hilario Caballero; and her brothers, Raul Lomas and Andrés Lomas.
Amparo’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
