My Tia Chaca was an absolute legend. She loved everyone. And everyone that knew her loved her, too. I remember visiting her while in high school. Going to Astroworld and Waterworld during the summer. I remember when I just got my drivers license, she gave me the keys to Tio Victor’s truck and said, “Llevatela, Mijo. Take the Cuates around the block.” We had fun. She was strict, but fair. The Cuates and would be up late joking around and laughing. All she would say, “Ninos…” That was our sign that we were too loud. I have so many memories of her. But, my all time favorite memory: I was visiting during the Thanksgiving break. We were supposed to go to the go carts, but it was raining. So, she said, “Vamos to the Galeria.” Of course, we went. While shopping, I wanted to go to Foot Locker and get a jacket. A Rockets jacket. At the time, Starter jackets were the style. So, we were looking. And I found one. But, it was like $100. That was way too expensive. So, I put it back. She saw me and she asked me if I liked it. I said it was ok. She knew I was lying. She told me to try it on. So I did. She asked if it fit. I said yes. She said, “Lo quieres?” I told her that I couldn’t. She asked again.( For who don’t know her, when she asks the first time, it’s to see if you are going to be selfish. The second time, she is willing to get it for you. ) I said yes very hesitantly. She said, “Bueno. Damelo.” And she bought it for me. For Christmas, 3 years ago, my wife had it framed. I cried. She asked me why. I told her. I am going to miss you, Mi Tia Chacha. Give My Tios, Hilario, and Frito a hug for me…
