Adolfo was born on May 30, 1930 and passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012. Adolfo Balderrama Perez was born May 30, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas. His parents, Ascuncion Perez and Agapita Balderrama Perez, took him to Mexico as a baby. As a boy he was a sheep herder in the mountains around Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and worked as a water boy during the building of the international highway. He returned to San Antonio at the age of 12. He later joined the US Army, 3rd Division, 15 Regiment (Can Do) in 1950, and was deployed to Korea. He was in many Korean battles, including Inchon as a Medic where he would pick-up wounded soldiers, administer first-aid, and transport them by jeep back to the camp medical facilities. He met and married Zoila Cantu Cuevas on November 15, 1954 and they had 5 children, Sylvia P. Torrres (Vicente), Miroslava Gamboa (Francisco), Aurora Gutierrez, Adolfo Perez Jr. (Idalia), Alberto Perez (Sarah Ramona). They settled in San Antonio where he was employed as a truck driver for 14 years. He then moved his family to Houston in 1969, where he retired from trucking in 1992. He enjoyed many happy years on Soft Shadows Lane with his wife, children, relatives, neighbors and friends until his death. Adolfo is predeceased by his parents, Ascuncion and Agapita Perez, and one brother, Mario Perez. Adolfo was thoughtful, hard working and a loving man. He had a terrific sense of humor, up until his death and never knew a stranger. Although he only had a third grade education, he was highly intelligent, wise, and always available to lend a helping hand. His main motto was "Always be a good American citizen". He presence will be so very missed, but he will live on in our hearts.
