I am wrting these lines on behalf of my mother, Maria P Douglas, my dad, Alphonse, and my nine brothers and sisters, remembering the wonderful man we knew as brother, brother in-law, and beloved Uncle, Adolfo B Perez. My mom remembers her brother, third oldest of eight children, always caring about his sibilings. As a young man, Adolfo was in the US Army and would always sennd money to help support his parents and brothers in Mexico. Later, he was instrumental in bringing them to San Antonio to live from Sabinas Hadilgo, Nuevo Leon. Adolfo hd a big heart, and was a very humble man. When Adolfo married his wife, Zoila, 58 years ago, in Sabinas Hidalgo, my mom wanted to come along with them to San Antonio for their honeymoon, and her brother was more than happy to bring his sister along ! In later years, Maria would marry and have ten children, while Adolfo and Zoila had five wonderful children. Adolfo and Zoila moved to Houston, Texas in hopes of finding a better life for his family where he would work as a truck driver, often times drivin to San Antonio. As the years went by the families would visit each other periodically. As his niece, what I remember most is this big giant of a man coming to visit in his big rig, and always bringing sweet bread and the best pies in Texas from Grumpy's ! He wassuch a gentle, loving man. As we became adults and had our own families we would continue visiting our uncle and aunt in Houston. Our uncle always had his door open to us and our aunt always had a wonderful home cooked meal for us. Our uncle often made his famous menudo for this motor cycle driving nephews ! These are just a few of the many memories we share of our beloved Tio Adolfo. Your sister Maria will miss you dearly as you were always there to lend an ear and give advice. Cousins, and Tia Zoila, know that we truly appreciate you sharing your husband and dad throughout the years. Our deepest condolences to all of you.
