He went by many names, and each name represented an important part of his life.
WILLIAM- The formal name . The name that was chosen for him, and the name that the government and all official documents will refer to him as. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps (now known as the Air Force). He loved airplanes and always dreamed of being a pilot. Unfortunately he was color blind so instead of being a pilot, he was the Crew Chief for maintenance on the airplanes. He spent one year overseas mostly in Italy during WWII making sure the pilot's planes were ready to go.
After he was honorably discharged from the service he attended Baylor University in Waco, TX with the help of the GI Bill. He graduated in 3.5 years with a degree in Business, while working full time, married and the father of a daughter, Raynell.
When he finished his degree he worked for insurance companies namely CNA and Highlands Insurance until he retired. Even after he retired he continued to work part time until he was about 70 years old. BILL: This is the REAL name. This is who people know to be the real NAGY. This is the one most of us use, and know him by.
It is the one word that could ALWAYS be heard in the home of Bill & Jo Nagy. It was the word most often used by his wife of almost 68 years, Jo. Jo was the love of his life. They had many activities they loved to do together such as boating, camping, fishing, cruises and at one point they even had a motorcycle for leisure time just riding around. On one of their cruises to Hawaii, 1998, they renewed their wedding vows. At one time they even had a boat which Bill named "Josie" for Jo. Of all the activities they shared together, their passion was ballroom dancing to Big Band music of the 1940's. And they were great dancers! They never had professional lessons but people on the dance floor would clear the floor just to watch them dance!
Bill had other interests too. Besides fishing, he loved family gatherings, reading, working crossword puzzles, hunting, golfing and boating. He was also a real handyman for everything! He was never one to sit still for very long!
DAD: was the next name bestowed on him, and used by his three children Raynell, Priscilla, and Louis, in that order. It was used with special meaning on Birthdays and fathers day as well as other special holidays.
PAW PAW: Was the name used by the grandchildren, all 7 of them.
BILL NAGY had as we all do many loves in his life.
- His Bride / wife/ mother of his children, Jo.
- His three Children: Raynell Rochna, Priscilla Berg and Louis Nagy
- His grandchildren: Jill Spruill, Ryan Spruill, Justin Nagy, Chris Berg, Kristen Nagy, Sydney Berg, Greg Rochna.
- His great grandchildren: Casen Nagy, Madison Nagy, Julien Spruill, Jackson Spruill.
- Fishing, and boating, with all of the above.
Bill introduced his children, grandchildren, and I am not sure about his great grandchildren, to his love of fishing, boating, crabbing, etc..
Bill Nagy served with pride the country he loved.
It is because of people like Bill that we are able to enjoy and have what we take for granted today.
