Mr. Wendell Allen Niemtschk's Obituary
Mr. Wendell Allen Niemtschk, 63, was born on September 4, 1954 to the late Floyd & Louise Niemtschk and passed away on January 6, 2018 in Houston, Texas. He was with us for 63 years, 4 months and 2 days. He is preceded in death by three brothers: Floyd Jr., Doyle Lynn and Myral Ivan Niemtschk. He is survived by his son, Michael Lee Niemtschk, and three sisters: Belinda Clark of Kingwood, Brenda Hicks of Crosby and Teresa Kellum of Katy and one brother, Darrell Niemtschk of Tomball.
Wendell was a quite and shy person when he was young and Mom nicknamed him Punk and we all called him that even through his grown-up years. He was the “pretty one” said Grandpa Otto and he seem to follow Grandpa Otto around a lot, just so he could learn from him because he loved learning things. He helped with Mom and Dad on our farm with all the animals, but didn’t like the cleaning up after them too much. He loved working with Dad on the land and keeping his spirits up during his health problems. He loved Gospel music and would take Mom to the “singings” in the area on Friday nights and then out to eat. He cared for Mom’s many flowers around the homestead and for her during her health problems too.
He had an unusual life from other kids in school because he had farm chores to do and not just play time. He was in Channelview FFA and won a trophy and ribbon for his animal and was active with the school play “Oklahoma” where he had a large part and sang quite well. Then came graduation in May of 1977 and marriage shortly after to Cindy Barnett, his class sweetheart. He also had a son, Michael Lee in April of 1980.
He was employed for a short time with Arco in the 80’s and then changed to an unusual profession of landscape maintenance for some 20+ years. Then he developed a very fond love for cats and the more the merrier, and it drove Mom crazy, but it was his new found love and he named and cared for each one of them. He also loved movies and could tell you about everyone he watched and give you highlights about all of them too.
Wendell enjoyed life and always talked about fishing, taking a cruise and someday having that bay house. He had plans for that bay house with lots of windows so you could see the water and still be comfortable. He went on a cruise as a gift for his birthday from some very generous people. He talked about the trip to Mexico and all of the special dishes that were served and how could he cook them at home. He loved going to Rollover Pass, Smith’s Point and other places so he could fish. When he fished he never met a stranger and would tell people how he was a “Man of God” and that the Lord lead him to be a “Fisher of Men” and that the fish he caught was just extra and then he would give the fish away to whomever he was talking too.
He loved the Lord and he preached to everyone that would listen and sometimes it would be pretty lengthy conversation. Even the many times he was in the hospital he was telling people, doctors, nurses about the Lord and how He could make their lives special and several came to know the Lord through faith and would come tell him about it the next day, if he was still in the hospital. He would just smile and say now get you a Bible and find a church.
Towards the end it was difficult for him but he would talk about how he wished he could help his family more and make their lives easier but with a bad heart he knew that he couldn’t help. I know there is probably more things we could say about Wendell, but he did love his family. So just remember the good times and memories and stay faithful to the one he loved the most – God.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a funeral service on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at San Jacinto Funeral Home. Wendell will be laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park immediately following the service.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time.
