She was married to her high school sweetheart and love of her life, William “Billy” Louis Watkins for 63 years, who preceded her in death. They lived over 60 years in Northshore of Houston, TX. Together they raised 3 children, a daughter Carla Marie who preceded her in death, and two sons William Louis Jr and Maurice Lynn, affectionately called BJ and Termite.
She is survived by her two sons and daughter in laws, BJ and Marian Watkins, Termite and Cindy Watkins; her sister in law, Dude Carter; her nephews, Carl Jr, James, and Rodney; her grandchildren, Wendy Smith, Trace Watkins, Jared Watkins, Shawnah Biondolillo, Tessa Holzworth, LoraNan Batson, and Kevin “KJ” Black; four “bonus” grand children, Courtney Kutach, Karis Baltzell, Christiana Durley, Kaitlyn Vick; 21 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
Wanda was always known as having a sweet spirit and for being kind to everyone she met. She was an incredible wife to Billy and an amazing mother, supportive in every way to her husband and children - from caring for Carla in all her beauty pageants, cheerleading, etc, to chasing after two adventurous, rowdy boys. BJ and Termite’s interests introduced Wanda to the world of boxing which led to a lifetime of interesting and exciting memories. Wanda accepted, loved, and encouraged not just her own children but many others who crossed her path. In her later years she became the grandmother or “Nana” to all children and anyone who walked through the doors of Fighter Nation Boxing Gym. If you knew Wanda/Nanny/Nana/Mom, you also knew of her absolute love for dancing at any time, any place, with anyone!
Most importantly she loved the Lord and wanted everyone to come to know Him as well. She is no longer with us but the sweet memories of her will always live in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Wednesday June 3 at Fellowship of The Nations Church at 11am, visitation is at 10am. 13305 Woodforest Blvd, Houston, TX 77015
