Virginia Belle "Jigger" Purswell, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to her family.
Born on April 19, 1932, in Liberty, Texas, Jigger married the love of her life, Cecil Purswell, on June 27, 1949. In 1951, they made their home in Channelview, Texas, where they built a life together filled with love, hard work, and cherished memories.
Jigger was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and treasured great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cecil Purswell, and her son, David Purswell.
She is lovingly survived by her sons, Melvin Purswell and Edwin Purswell; her grandchildren, Joseph Purswell and Virginia Mims; and her great-grandchildren, Turner and Vera Purswell & Gracie and Dannie Mims. Her family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved.
Jigger's love for Jesus Christ shaped the way she lived, and she shared that faith with her family through her example of love, generosity, and steadfast devotion.She expressed her love through the simple pleasures of life—preparing meals for her family, tending her garden, and creating a welcoming home where everyone felt loved.
Of all her favorite pastimes, fishing for crappie brought her some of her happiest moments, especially when shared with family and friends.
Jigger's gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and unconditional love will be remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the family she cherished so deeply.
Though she will be profoundly missed, her loved ones find comfort in knowing that her life was one of purpose, love, and faith. She will forever remain in their hearts.
