Mrs. Vira L. Chambers' Obituary
Vira L. Chambers, born Vira L. Marshall on November 30, 1920, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016. She was the first of five children of Oscar and Nora Marshall. She grew up in Carthage, Arkansas and moved to Little Rock following high school to work as a dress maker. There she met Ben W. Chambers and they were married in 1942. They moved to Houston after World War II and to Galena Park in 1950. Vira lived there until 2011. Ben passed away in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, her brother and two grandchildren: Wilson Parkhouse and Phillip Chambers. She is survived by sister, Velma Jones; children: Mary (husband Don) Parkhouse, William (wife Joyce) Chambers, Robert (wife Cheryl) Chambers and Thomas (wife Diana) Chambers; as well as ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. The family offers special thanks to Shirley Evans for her loving care.
Vira was a loving and proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother. After service as president of the Galena Park Elementary PTA, she went to work for Sears on Wayside Drive in Houston, retiring from there when they closed the store. She was a member of First Baptist Church Galena Park.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Chapel at San Jacinto Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held there Friday, July 22, 2016 at 12:30 pm with Pastor Marcos Ramos officiating. Interment will follow in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
