Thelbert Armond Hammons' Obituary
Thelbert Armond Hammons, born April 7, 1931, in Henderson County, Texas, to Cassin (“Cash”) and Susie Hammons, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, in New Caney, Texas, at the age of 94.
On April 6, 1952, Thelbert married the love of his life, Lola Morgan, in Diboll, Texas. Together they built a life grounded in hard work, devotion, and unwavering love.
A proud and decorated U.S. Army veteran, Thelbert served his country with honor as a Corporal from October 1952 to October 1954. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. His dedication to service continued long after his military years—he retired from Earl M. Jorgenson Co. as a burner and later from Splendora I.S.D., where he served as a beloved school bus driver.
A member of the Masonic Sampson Lodge in Highlands, Texas, Thelbert found deep joy in life’s simple treasures: working in his yard, traveling, and cherishing time with his ever-growing family.
He is survived by his children: Anna Irene & Kenneth Callaway of New Caney, TX, Angelou & Jeff Smith of Canyon Lake, TX, Melodee & Trip Brown of Gibsonville, NC, Terance A. Hammons of New Caney, TX, Stephen & Camie Hammons of Huffman, TX, and Melinda Gillie of New Caney Tx.
He is also lovingly remembered by 32 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Thelbert is survived by his brothers George Albert & Nelda Hammons of Zavalla, TX, and Billy Wayne & Gayle Hammons of Fort Worth, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Mae Hammons, his parents Cassin & Susie Hammons, and his siblings Janet Helton, J.C. Hammons, Mozzel Morgan, Lou Cook, and Reagan Hammons.
Thelbert’s life was a testament to service, love, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
