Ms. Sylvia Gaines' Obituary
Sylvia Gaines, 68, was born on December 24, 1946 in Houston, Texas to her parents William P Thomason, Sr. and Helen Mary Janak Thomason and went to Heaven with her Lord and Savior on August 17, 2015.
She was the 3rd of six children and grew up in Sheldon, Texas. She graduated in 1965 from C.E. King High School in Houston, Texas. She loved to play volleyball and tennis. She was a majorette in the marching band, Editor-in Chief of the Annual, Vice-President of the Press Club, Vice-President of the F.H.A., Treasure of the Senior Class and nominated to the homecoming court.
She was very involved in her local church, Parkway Baptist, for many years as a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and was a star player on the church’s volleyball team.
She had an unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. Her daughters, grandchildren and family were her greatest joy. She had a loving and generous heart and was always giving to others.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers William P. Thomason, II, Milton Thomason and Errol Thomason. She is survived by her daughters: Annette Coon and husband John Coon and Debbie Bowman and husband Andy Bowman; sisters: Olivia Parnell and Helen Hefner; grandchildren: Claire Coon, Sarah Severin, Lauren Severin, Katie Johns, Scott Bowman and Andrew Bowman, Jr.; and great grandchildren: Raegan Johns and Noah Bowman.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 20, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Chapel at San Jacinto Funeral Home. The service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 10:00 am in the Chapel at San Jacinto Funeral Home, with interment to follow in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
