She is preceded in death by her husband Roger (Buddie) Posey, her parents Edmon and Vera Harrelson (Holliday) and survived by her brother Dickie (and sister-in-law Martha) Harrelson of Crosby; sister-in-law Peggy Posey (Houston), sister-in-law Betty Williamson (Dallas), daughters Debbie Posey (Houston), Kathy Posey (Channelview), Jenny (and Stephen) McKinney (Hughes Springs TX) and Mindy (and Robert) Zamarripa (Pittsburg TX); Grandchildren Christopher (and Keisha) McKinney (DeQueen AR), Cara (and Kevin) Carrington (Lowell AR), Clay (and Emily) McKinney (Little Rock AR), Gracie (and Ian) Posey (Houston), Faith, Hope and Matthew Zamarripa (Pittsburg); Great-grandchildren Joshua McKinney, Molly Carrington, and Baby Carrington on-the-way; beloved nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Shirley was the constant in the lives of those she knew and loved. She was devoted to her family, her community and her church, Old River Terrace United Methodist in Channelview, where she belonged for over 60 years. Shirley loved music, playing piano and organizing the neighborhood kiddos for annual Christmas caroling in the early years.
After her stint as a stay-at-home Mom for the “Shirley Girls” and lifetime Payrent Teacher Association (PTA) membership and countless offices, Shirley went on to become the school secretary for Viola Cobb Elementary in Channelview, where she made life long friends and retired in 1997.
Not one to seek attention, she always cared for others. Shirley was positive and upbeat to her last day on earth. She could fret over small things, but her faith never wavered and she was not afraid of death.
Family and friends visitation is scheduled for December 16, 2019 from 5pm-8pm. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 12:30 pm at Old River Terrace United Methodist Church in Channelview, with a graveside service to follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park. For those who choose to donate in lieu of flowers, Shirley supported MD Anderson Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society.
