Rest in peace, Sammy! I will miss your smile, encouragement, and friendship at the black drum fishing tournament. Thank you for being my first boat captain for several years at the tournament. I will always remember how much you did to make sure I enjoyed our time out on the water together.

The numbers of Speckled Trout and Redfish in and around the Galveston Bay system will surely rise significantly with the passing of the best fisherman I ever had the pleasure of wetting a line with. Rarely did we ever return home without a good stringer and some great stories. Rest in peace Sammy.
Sammy helped us plan the Drum Tournament for the Physically Challenged for many years. We meet every week for over two months before the tournament. Sammy was always there. The week before we lost him he was there and still planned to help with getting the supplies at Sam's. This tournament supports around 25 events for the physically challenged each year. I hope he knows how many people's lives he has touched. We will miss you Sammy. Rest in peace.

I had the privilege of being Sam's neighbor in Bayou Vista. He was really an inspiration. we maintained our friendship after I moved to Santa Fe. You could always count on Sam. I will miss him!
