Rosa Lee Mayo's Obituary
Rosa Lee (Purvis) Mayo was born to the late Luther Purvis and Pattie (King) Purvis on November 23, 1935 in Falkland, North Carolina. She met the love of her life, Joseph William Mayo, Jr., when she was 15 years old while attending her 9th grade freshman year in high school. It was love at first sight for both of them! On June 29, 1952, they were united in marriage. She was only 16 years old! Despite of her young age, her marriage to her childhood sweetheart lasted for 51 years until he passed away in 2003. Throughout their years of wedded bliss, five children were born. On Tuesday, October 27, 2015, her soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow, and pain to a place of eternal rest.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Mayo, Jr.; son, Jeffrey Lee Mayo, Sr.; mother, Pattie (King) Purvis; dad, Luther Purvis; three sisters, Annie Lee “Sis” (Purvis) Harris, Ethel “Babe” (Purvis) Randolph, and Pattie Mae (Purvis) Williams; and three brothers, William “Buddy” Purvis, Robert Lee “Bo Robert” Purvis, and Willie “Bo Willie” Purvis. Saddened by her homegoing and yet rejoicing in the knowledge that she has gone to a better place are: her two daughters, Vivian (Mayo) Mason and husband Warren, and Keicha Mayo; two sons, Darryl and Derek Mayo; two sisters, Redelphia “Teen” Burnett and Bertha “Little Baby” Evans; brother, Roosevelt Purvis and wife Deborah, daughter-in-law, Johnnie (Harge) Mayo; three grandchildren, Jonelle Mayo, Leron Mason, and Jeffrey Lee Mayo, II and wife Misty; three great-grandchildren, Elisha Boland, Jade Mayo, and Jonesia Boland; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 2, 2015 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the Chapel at San Jacinto Funeral Home, with funeral service to start at 11:00 am. Interment to immediately follow in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
