Roma Jean Parsons' Obituary
Roma Parsons passed peacefully from her earthly home into the arms of her Heavenly Father on November 9, 2022, at the age of 87. Roma was born Roma Jean Rinehart on September 18, 1935, the only daughter of Melvin and Virginia (Tiger) Rinehart. She was born in Houston, Texas, but lived briefly in Ohio before returning to Texas. She grew up in Jacinto City and attended Galena Park High School, where she graduated in 1954. It was during this time that she met and married the love of her life, Johnny Parsons. Roma and Johnny shared a special love that very few are fortunate to ever find, and the two of them celebrated 69 years of marriage on June 13, 2022.
Roma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and family was always a very important priority for her. Known affectionately as “Granny”, she loved spending time with family whenever she could. Her sweet smile and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor were just a few of her many endearing qualities. Her banana pudding was always a special treat at Christmas and Thanksgiving, and her grandchildren took special delight in teasing and joking with her about her penchant for “as seen on TV” products and other things. Countless memories have been made over the years celebrating holidays and family birthdays and milestones, and enjoying game nights and other special times together. Roma made a profession of faith as a young teenager, and she spent the rest of her life loving and serving God. Her life reflected the light and love of Jesus every single day through her acts of service, such as working with the bus ministry and as a youth sponsor, Sunday school teacher, and VBS worker, just to name a few. In particular the annual bus trips with the Praise Fest youth choir were a joyful time she shared with her husband, Johnny. However, Roma had two very special gifts that reflected His love, and those were the way she cared for and took care of those around her, and her constant devotion to praying for others. Roma was a true prayer warrior and she could always be counted on to lift up those in need. Her church families, at Second Baptist Church of Jacinto City and later Calvary Baptist Church of North Channel, where she worshiped and served for many years, held a very special place in her heart. In addition to her parents, Melvin and Virginia Rinehart,
Roma is preceded in death by her older brother, Kenneth Rinehart, and her son, Johnny Parsons of Victoria. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Parsons; daughters Janet Parsons and Barbara Parsons Roehling; daughter-in-law Olga Parsons of Victoria (surviving wife of son Johnny Parsons); six grandchildren, Brandi Rosas, Jacqueline Roehling, Brandon Parsons, Jeremy Roehling, Jared Roehling, and Brittany Parsons; seven great-grandchildren, Bria Rosas, Lucas Rosas, Gracie Parsons, Gibson Parsons, Alden Roehling, Rebecca Roehling, and Atticus Parsons; one brother, Terry Rinehart of Pasadena, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
