Mr. Roland Georg Wich's Obituary
Celebrating the life of Roland Georg Wich
Roland was born on June 6, 1937 in Germany, where he was first of three children to bless the lives of his parents Hildegard Hubber and Georg Wich.
Roland lived with his mother in Greiz Germany until he was 17 years old. At this age, Roland decided to do something that would change his life forever…
Against his mother’s wishes and with his own “doctored” papers in 1954 at 17 years of age and during the time of Communist Regime, Roland rode his bicycle from his home in East Germany to his Aunt Rosa’s home in West Germany. This was a time when Germany was completely divided and doing something like this would have been extremely difficult, dangerous, and downright special.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th most important events in his life were when he married his wife Jenny on April 17, 1965 in Webb County, and then the births of their Daughters Astrid and Ingrid.
Throughout his life, Roland had many job ventures including: a paper factor in Greiz, coal mining, and Ford Factory in Cologne Germany, followed by Robertson Tank Lines in Houston Texas, DSI Transports in Deer Park Texas, ITEL and HEIL in Houston Texas, and Enterprise Transportation in Baytown, Texas.
In his pass time Roland loved to crafty….he was a true craftsman who loved working with his hands. He also loved all animals, but dogs were by far his favorite.
Sadly, Roland passed away on March 10th, 2016 while residing in Channelview, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Ingrid, and his wife Jenny. Roland is survived by his loving daughter Astrid, and their beloved German Shepherds Fritz and Sadie.
Roland’s Daughter Astrid would like to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy during this difficult time and would be honored if in lieu of flowers donations were made in Roland’s name to:
