Ramona Coronado Martinez's Obituary
The life of Ramona Coronado Martinez, 81, of Houston came to an end on September 16, 2011 at home with her family by her side.
Ramona was born on November 19, 1929 in Brownsville, TX to Julio and Alberta Coronado.
She attended Brownsville High School. In 1948, she married Eduardo F. Martinez. Ramona lovingly devoted her time and energy to sewing, cooking and baking, and creating crafts for her family, friends, and charitable works. She enjoyed expressing her appreciation to her children's teachers, her husband's coworkers, her healthcare workers with thoughtful homemade gifts. Her holiday tamales were always eagerly anticipated by so many.
Throughout her selfless life, she was an active PTA parent and volunteer, a Catholic CCD teacher and a volunteer at Mary's Kitchen at St. Andrews Catholic Church, where she has been a parishioner for over 30 years. Most recently she became a member of the Red Hats and a great companion to Papi, her Chihuahua, who loved to give her kissies.
Ramona was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Eduardo, her eldest daughter Cristina and her son-in-law Wayne Holden.
Ramona is survived by her sons Eduardo Jr., Lonnie, Benjamin and Alfred; her daughters Patty Hayes and husband Mike, Cecilia Kennedy and husband Lee, Monica Martinez Rubio and husband Johnny and Rebecca Martinez Holden; her sisters Dolores Gonzalez, Hilda Soto, Esperanza Rosas, and Berta Coronado; her brothers Julio Jr., Santos, and Tony; 22 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Special thanks to Rachel Franco and her dedicated friendship and to the nursing staff at East Houston Regional Hospital.
