Mr. Philip Adolph Spitz's Obituary
Philip Adolph Spitz, 80, of Houston, TX, was born March 6, 1935, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and died with his wife by his side on Sunday, January 17, 2016, in Houston, TX.
Philip was the youngest of seven children by Joseph Spitz and Juliett Harzen Spitz and was raised by his eldest brother and wife, Joseph (Pop) and Evelyn (Mother). He graduated from Houston ISD’s Reagan High School in 1954, was enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1954 – 1958, and then attended the University of Houston’s College of Technology for four years.
Mother and Pop encouraged Philip to get to know a girl named Lois Ann Browning around Christmas of 1960. They married in Houston, TX, on June 24, 1961. They had two children, Douglas Phillip and Stacy Ann. Phillip and his “Annie” were married 54 years.
Philip worked for Applied Power and Equipment followed by a 35 year career as a diesel mechanic through the International Longshore Association at Lykes Brothers, Ryan Walsh and Shippers Stevedoring. Unhappy about having to retire from a job that he loved, Philip needed to find something to do. A friend introduced him to the fishing program at Sheldon Lake State Park and he began a volunteer career of assisting school children with baiting hooks and fishing. Having always wanted to be a pilot, Philip decided to try his hand at building, flying and repairing radio controlled airplanes, enjoying his time with the Crosby Prop Nuts R/C Club.
Philip is survived by his wife, Lois Ann Spitz; children, Douglas Spitz and wife Jennifer of Crosby, Stacy Hash and husband, Kenneth of Conroe; two grandchildren, Nicolette Reese Hash and Judith Louise Spitz; siblings, Katherine Swaim, May Fountain, Barbara Wilson, Joseph William Spitz and Alma Hruby; many other family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm in San Jacinto Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of San Jacinto Funeral Home with the internment following in San Jacinto Memorial Park. Military honors will be rendered for Mr. Spitz for his dedication and service to our country in the United States Air Force.
