Life History of Naomi Louise Hughes
Naomi Louise Hughes was born February 10, 1952, in Jonesville, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late Newt and Catherine Farris. She attended Jonesville Consolidated School in Jonesville, Louisiana. She later moved to Baytown, Texas, in the early 1970s, where she began her journey of life. She was employed at El Dupont for over 15 years.
Naomi attended Word of Faith Family Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor George Frazier, where she served faithfully for many years as one of the first members. She then moved to Houston, Texas, where she united with St. Stephens Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Paul Laundrew, serving faithfully as a Deaconess. Many years later, she united with Victory International Church under the leadership of Pastor Claude Cummings, where she served in the Deaconess and Greeters Ministry until God called her home. She also volunteered her time at Faith of Hospice in Baytown, Texas, for many years. Naomi was a kindhearted and free-spirited person who loved life, family, and most of all, God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Newt and Catherine Farris; three siblings, Annie Farris, Archie Farris, and Harry Farris; and her daughter, Corwandus Finister. Naomi leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Robert Sidney Hughes; her son, Rodrick Gilbert; her godson, DeMario Franklin (Keisha); and her stepson, Kenneth Hughes, all of Houston, Texas; her goddaughter, Regina West of California; her granddaughter, Memory Corbin (Alex) of Missouri; her sister, Shirley Whitney of Houston, Texas; her brother, Mitchell Farris of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her uncle, Joseph Williams of California; her special friend, Ralph Hawkins of Baytown, Texas; seven grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
