I first met Mary in 1991 when my wife and I moved into Redwood Estates. I later served on the Home Owner Association Board with Mary as my Vice President for over 11 years. During that time we became very close and shared many activities and projects together. I gained much respect for her through her thoughts, recommendations and hard work. When my wife and I lost everything during the 2001 flood, it was Mary that gave us the courage to go on and rebuild and to look forward. As we had our only child a year later, it was Mary that attended every birthday and party giving us much support in raising our child, Annie. Several years ago when I lost my father, Mary supported me and gave me strength to cary my family forward in such trying times. When I decided to resign my position as President of the HOA, Mary took great time in her busy schedule to consult with me and to support me in my decision. She was my friend and surrogate mother. We talked often and Mary was looking forward to just spending time in her retirement sitting on her porch and listening to the birds that she so loved and cared for. I would come to visit and sit with her and talk about all kinds of subjects...life and death. She never wanted to be a burden on her family and the love of her life Gary as she got older and once told me she never wanted to grow old in a nursing home. I guess Mary got her wish...maybe sooner than we all would have liked, but I don't think she had any regrets about anything in life. She loved her husband, son and his wife, and just adored her grandbaby. We are truely at a lost not having her around longer and she will be greatly missed, but God in Heaven gained one really great lady. May you rest in peace Mary.
