Mary Rachel Hawkins' Obituary
Obituary for Mary Rachel Hawkins
An Angel on Earth…. Mary R. Hawkins went home to be with the Lord on February 4th, 2025 after her courageous battle with several health conditions. She was called home to heaven peacefully with her family by her side.
Mary was born on May 8th, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA to Raymond and Helen Peters (Ratchford). She was the youngest of 3 children. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her older brother, William Peters.
Mary is survived by her sister, Joan Pattison (Peters), and her beloved children and in-laws, James V. and Davy Hawkins (Ang) and David W. and Paige Hawkins (Touchet). She is a proud grandmother to Ashton Touchet and Drake Hawkins, and great grandmother to Alexandria Touchet, the children and grandchildren of David and Paige Hawkins, and to Adam Hawkins (husband of Selena Hawkins), Thomas Hawkins, and Linley Hawkins with fiance’ Tucker Demo, children of James and Davy Hawkins.
From an early age, Mary has always shown a strong faith in God and wanting to help other people. She began her career as a registered nurse in 1962 and worked at multiple hospitals and doctor’s offices.
Mary married her best friend and love of her life, Boyd P. “Red” Hawkins, on December 23rd, 1967, and thus began a lifelong partnership that is rarely seen in life. Their life was filled with countless miles traveled with weekend trips all over Texas, children and grandchildren, love and happiness. Mary left this world and is now back with her lifelong love, Red.
Mary was a true Christian and devoted her life to helping others and spreading the word of God. She was a registered nurse for several years helping people back to health and where she first met her husband Red in the hospital. After her retirement from nursing to become a stay at home mom, she continued to focus on service to others. She taught children’s Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church of Jacinto City. She also had a love of singing and loved to sing in the church choir. She was also a serious competitor in the game of Skip-Bo! and loved playing with all of her neighbors and friends. In later years, Mary would help her husband in ministering the Word of God in numerous nursing homes until Red's health began to decline.
Mary was a loving and caring person, deeply passionate about topics related to her family and regarding her Christian service. She will be sorely missed by her family and those that knew her, but we can all take comfort in knowing that she is in Heaven now. She has finished her time on Earth as a good and faithful servant of Christ.
