Mary Patricia " Pat " (Constantine) Bate's Obituary
Mary Patricia “Pat” Bate passed peacefully on Monday, April 19th at her home in Madeira Beach with her husband of 62 years, Roger, at her side, and was surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Pat was born on September 6, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Emily Constantine. As the daughter of an Army officer, she enjoyed living in a variety of different places, finally settling in Madeira Beach for his last duty assignment at the Bay Pines VA. She graduated from St. Paul’s Catholic High School in St Petersburg Florida in 1955, then from St Mary’s Nursing Collage in Tucson AZ. It was there she married the love of her life Roger Bate in 1959 and went on to raise 5 children at their homes in Tucson AZ, Pampa TX, Asheville NC, finally settling in Houston Texas in 1971. While in Houston they were members of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. Three years ago, she and Roger moved to their home in Madeira Beach and were members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Seminole, FLA.
Pat shared a deep devotion with her mom to the Blessed Virgin Mary and was very involved with the Church and the marriage ministry Retrouville, where she and Roger served with grace as the International coordinators for several years. It can truly be said she never met a stranger. She had a gift for connecting with people and as a true matriarch became a source of strength and wisdom for her family, the Retrouville family, and everyone she met.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Emily, and her son Greg. She is survived by her loving husband Roger, her brother Joseph “Skip” Constantine, her children and their spouses, Steve (Virginia), Judy (Battista), Mary Jo (Karen), and Mark (Lori), her grandchildren Ashley, Victoria, Emily, Matt, Christina, Tony, Dominique, Josh, Kristen, their spouses, and numerous great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
A Mass will be held in her honor at St Dominic’s Catholic Church, 8215 Reservoir Dr in Houston Texas, on Wednesday 5/12 at 10am with the Internment at 11:30 AM at San Jacinto Memorial Park, 14659 East Freeway, Houston, TX 77015. Reception to follow at Iguana Joes, 5710 E. Sam Houston Parkway, Houston, TX 77015.
