Mr. Martice Parish's Obituary
Martice Parish, 84, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born to Jimmie and Frankie Parish in Mt. Olive, Mississippi on June 17, 1926. Mr. Parish served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. On July 3, 1951 he and Mary Francis Holt were married and celebrated their 59th. anniversary in 2010. Martice was a truck driver most of his life and was recognized in 1967 by Look Magazine as "Driver of the Year". At that time he had driven the equivalent of 77 times around the world without incident . He is survived by is loving wife Mary Parish; children Winton Parish and wife Cherie, Linda Parish Martin, Deborah Parish Faciane, Marilyn Waldrep and husband Craig Collins, Sheila Parish, and Robert Parish; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and his sisters Lois Jones, Gracie Smith, Barbara Thigpen, and Betty Hart. Martice was preceded in death by his parents; his children including an infant daughter Francis Ann Parish, Martice Ray "Tinker" Parish, and Jerry Lane Parish; and a grandson Israel Lane Parish. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at San Jacinto Funeral Home beginning at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
