Martha Garcia Diaz's Obituary
Martha Diaz passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on September 6, 2022, at the age of 82, in Houston, TX. She was born on October 5, 1939, to Maria Elisa Morales on Center Street in the Heights.
Martha is survived by her 4 children, Andy, Gilbert (Mary), Johnny (BK), and Barbara (Floyd,”Shae”); her 4 granddaughters, Cameron, Skylar, Rhylee, and Aubrey; 2 brothers, Richard Castillo and Michael Zendejas.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, comadres; compadres, godchildren, and her puppy Butterscotch.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Arthur; her grandmother, “Mama”; her mother, Alice; her aunts Ruth “Cuca”, Tina, Inez “Nessa”, and her aunt Carmen, who she grew up with and considered Carmen her sister and her best friend.
Martha was raised by her grandmother Tiburcia Morales who she affectionately called her “Mama”.
She attended St. Patrick Catholic School and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in downtown Houston. During her time at Incarnate Word Academy she attended daily mass at Annunciation Catholic Church.
On April 19, 1964, Martha married Arthur Diaz at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Houston, TX. She worked for various companies, such as HISD, HL&P, and IHDS.
She loved watching the Young and the Restless, the Bold and the Beautiful, All in the Family, Spanish novelas, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Feud, and the Price is Right.
Every morning she enjoyed eating pan dulce and drinking her hot cup of coffee. Martha loved the piano so much that she taught herself to play the piano and loved playing it for hours along with her keyboard. Some of her favorite music she would always listen to are Selena, Doo Wop music from the 50’s and 60’s, Los Temerarios, pianist Richard Clayderman, and ofcourse her favorite Elvis Presley.
It made her proud to see her children perform and dance in the Casa De Amigos Ballet Folklórico Group. One of her favorite things was to cook homemade tortillas for Arthur and her kids everyday. She cooked the best dang fried chicken ever and her caldo de pollo was famous and loved.
She looked forward to celebrating the holidays with family and cooking her turkey and preparing Christmas Eve dinner with “all the trimmings' ' like she would say. On New Year’s Eve, Martha would ring in the New Year making her light and crispy buñuelos.
Later Martha spent her life at home and cared for her kids as well as other family members' children and helped to raise them. Martha was a loving kind hearted soul who always opened her door to anyone.
She was a huge mega fanatic for her Houston Astros, do not dare put them down in front of her.
Martha was a devout Catholic all her life and read her prayer books daily. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be dearly missed.
Serving as pallbearers are Andy Diaz, Johnny Diaz, Shae Supercinski, John Zendejas, Mario Hernandez, Anthony Cardenas, Ernie Cardenas, and Jarvis Gabriel.

Her wonderful caregivers nurses Jodi and Claudia with Houston Hospice who provided care and comfort in her final stage.
