Garcia, Marta Delavina's Obituary
Marta “Martha" De La Vina Garcia, age 84, of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Born in Bishop, TX on September 8, 1939, to Marcelino De La Vina and Martina Zamora De La Vina.
Marta worked for The City of Jacinto City and retired after 38 years of service. Her passion was spending time with her family, having a good margarita or an ice-cold beer after a workday or sunny day, along with her Sunday mimosas and sangrias. Martha was the “life of the party” wherever she went, she loved good music and dancing all night, which is how she got her nickname, “Dancing Queen.” She loved watching sports, the Houston Astros, Rockets and Texans, but her number one season was football, all day from football draft picks, football highlights and replays, but it was watching the Houston Texans play. She never missed a game.
Marta always stayed up to date with what was going on in the world, her TV was set to her favorite news programs. But let’s not forget her afternoon TV soap opera, General Hospital. She was an avid voter and always asked us if we voted. She always said, “Where is your voting sticker? Voting is your duty, you cannot complain if you don’t vote.”
Marta was a strong, independent, hardworking woman that we have learned a lot from in many ways. She was genuine, angelic, and had a heart of gold.
Marta is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Canales Garcia, parents Marcelino De La Vina and Martina Zamora De La Vina, sisters Adeliaida Flores, Anastacia Jamie, Claudina Gonzalez, Enedina De La Vina, Paula Alvarez, Marcelina Gonzalez, Juanita Salazar, brothers Arturo De La Vina, and Ciprano De La Vina.
She is survived by her brother David De La Vina, her sister’s Ernestine (Tina) Gonzales, Olga Rodriguez, Rosa Tamez, her daughters Linda O. Wirtjes and husband Rick Wirtjes, Jessyka L. De La Vina Garcia, Erica L. Garcia Palomo, grandsons Thomas Wirtjes and girlfriend Amber Griffis, Andrew Palomo, granddaughters Andrea L. Saxey and husband Jeremy Saxey, Ava H. Palomo, Danielle Wirtjes and boyfriend Joe Brennan, great granddaughter Baylee Brennan and great grandsons Troy Brinar Jr., Tyan Brinar, Craig Wirtjes, Adrian Wirtjes, Tristin Martinez, Mason Brennan and Taven Brennan.
