Mr. Lowell Lee Brown, Jr.'s Obituary
Lowell Lee Brown Jr. came into this world on February 14, 1931 in Mansfield Louisiana, where he was the 1st of children to bless the lives of parents Doris Welch and Lowell Brown Sr. Lowell Jr. would call Mansfield home until 1958.
Lowell was a graduate of Mansfield High School after which he went on to obtain a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Northwestern University. After graduation he began a career in education as a teacher.
Before Lowell made his mark on the world of academia, he did serve 4 years, (1951-1955) in the U.S. Airforce and attained the rank of S/SGT and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.
It was on July 19, 1958 the he married his loving wife Bertha Travis and the two were blessed with 3 children, and 9 grandchildren.
In 2001 Lowell retired after 22 years of teaching and spent the rest of his life enjoying every minute he could. Whether it was listening to some of his favorite songs, This Old House or Baby Elephant Walk, playing some good cards with his poker buddies, being active with his American Legion Chapter or his Chess Club, or watching all kinds of sports, Lowell was determined to enjoy life.
Lowell was a hardworking, loyal, dedicated, generous, and loving man…this was most evident in his love for his family. While he had many important events in his life, the events that were cherished most were his wedding, the births of his children and perhaps most important, were the births of his grandchildren.
As we reflect on Lowell’s life we know that he had his ups and downs and smiles and tears, but through it all, there was love and family.
Lowell is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Bertha, Daughters Melanie Ayers and Terri Walding, Son Lee Brown, Brothers Delos, Thomas, and James Brown; Sister Barbara Crain, his 9 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. At this time the Brown family would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt expressions of sympathy during this difficult time…everything is greatly appreciated.
