Lorenzo "Larry" Martinez Jr.'s Obituary
Lorenzo “Larry” Martinez Jr., of Galena Park, Texas, departed this world peacefully at home on October 21, 2023, at the age of 60 with his loving daughter Stephanie by his side. He was born on September 22, 1963, in Brownfield, Texas, to Lorenzo Martinez Sr. and Mercedes Dunlap.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Mercedes Dunlap, and his brothers David Martinez and Richard David Martinez.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Martinez Peña, her husband Victor Peña and his three beloved grandchildren Uriyah Peña, Ninavey Peña and Kalissi Peña. He is also survived by his father, Lorenzo Martinez Sr., his dear sister Stella Martinez and her husband Johnny Salinas, his brothers Randy Martinez and his wife Gloria Martinez, Rene Martinez and his wife Gracie Martinez along with his eleven nieces and nephews.
The oldest of six siblings, after graduating from Galena Park High School in 1982, Larry went on to work for Mims Meat Company in Houston, Texas for over 30 years as well as working part time with his father at The Westin Galleria Hotel in Houston, Texas.
Beyond the workplace, he found joy with some of his favorite pastimes such as fishing, wind surfing, roller skating and enjoying the sounds of his favorite classic rock music, even introducing his favorite bands to his siblings. His family and friends well remember his custom blue van with his famous “Lightning Bolt” painted on the side of his van and tattooed on his arm. Larry was well known for his passion for grilling and BBQ’ing, even going on to win awards for his delicious barbeque. Sitting outside with his daughter, sister, grandkids and other family and friends were some of his favorite moments in life.
Larry’s legacy continues through his daughter, his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. His love for his family and his willingness to stick up for others at any time will always be cherished by those who loved him.
He will forever be remembered as the “Big Brother and Protector of the Family”.
