Leo Pugh's Obituary
August Leo Pugh (Leo) was born April 3, 1927 to Ruby and Gussie Pugh in Galena Park, Texas and passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 15th. He is predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife Joyce; two sons, Greg and wife Valerie and Brad and wife Christine; sister, Barbara Hamblen and five grandchildren, Ashley Pugh, Lindsey Rickett and husband Brandon, Shelby Pugh, Darby Pugh and Toby Pugh.
Leo attended public schools in Galena Park, TX and achieved perfect attendance throughout all eleven years. He entered the U.S. Navy at age 18 in 1944, served in WWII and USN Reserves until 1950. Many times he expressed his gratitude for having had the military pay for his college education at the University of Texas where he graduated in 1952 with a B.S. in Geology. He was employed in the Oil and Gas Industry as a Petroleum Geologist and in Geophysical Data Sales until his retirement in 1992.
Leo and Joyce were married in 1959 and lived their entire 60 years of married life in Galena Park where, in addition to his career job, he owned and operated Holland Washateria. After spending every day working in downtown Houston, he would have to tend to his business until he closed the doors at night. Many of those years were spent just working without much time off. When his sons got older, he was relieved to have their help. It was hard, but it paid for his sons' education, he often said.
What we will miss most about Leo was his sunny disposition. When he was around, the world was a peaceful place to be as he reflected a contentment we all long for in this old troubled world. He was our sunshine each and every day, even at age 92.
Special thanks go out to our dear Elizabeth Velasco, our world class caregiver. She was my strength during my darkest days; and without Cristian Rivera, we could not have done this at all. Our "Superman" was always there when we needed to transfer him. And, there was our beautiful Laly Rios who brightened many of his days. Only with the help of these faithful people were we able to keep him at home for the past three years. He loved them all, and they loved him.
