Karen Chance Mitchell's Obituary
Karen Chance Mitchell, age 68, of Richmond, Texas, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 16, 2024, in Richmond, Texas.
Born to parents Eugene and Mary Galesky on October 11, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York, Karen was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. She dedicated years to a successful career in management, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and peers.
Karen’s vibrant spirit was reflected in her favorite color: purple. She channeled her creativity into arts and crafts, creating everything from photo albums to intricate needlepoint pieces. A dream catcher she made still hangs in her home, a testament to her artistic talent. Her love for puzzles extended beyond the creative realm; she enjoyed crossword puzzles and games like bingo. Karen was an avid collector, amassing snow globes, angels, and baseball cards. But her true passion lay in caring for others. As the President of the Resident Counsel at her nursing facility, she advocated tirelessly for those who couldn’t speak up for themselves.
Christmas was Karen’s favorite time of year, and she hosted memorable parties filled with laughter, warmth, and love. Her generosity and kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mary Galesky, her daughter-in-law, Christie Gates (the late wife of Kenny Gates), and her siblings Juliana Butler, Kathy Galesky, Timothy Galesky, and Charles ‘Buddy’ Galesky. She is survived by her children: Richard Gates and his wife Crystal, Kenny Gates, and Julie Fernandez.
Karen’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Steven Gates, Janessa Ashley, Jordan Hutchinson, Jayson Gates, Stephanie Richardson, Jacob Russell, Johnny Gilmore, Anthony Rodriguez, and Karen Sauceda. She is further survived by great-grandchildren Larry, Charlie, Sam, Alexa, Lilian, Kyle, Reyna, DJ, and Danica.
In this time of grief, Karen will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
