Speaking for The Elliott Family (across the street neighbors from "John D." in Galena Park for countless years), I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Lockler Family for your loss. Mr. Locker has always been special to our family. He and Louis Sr. were such wonderful friends. Louis Sr. will be so lonely without John D. I will miss the big wave and even bigger smile from across the street each time I visit Galena Park now. He was a dear, dear soul, unlike anyone else I have ever known. May God bless and comfort you during this time.

I will remember Mr. Lockler most of all for all his help with our Food Pantry housed out of Second Baptist Church-Galena Park. From the moment we were given the okay to open the Pantry he was building shelves and looking for appliances and searching out food donations from stores. It always seemed like he was so happy when he got sweets from grocery stores, like pies, sweet rolls, cookies, and cakes. He wanted to make sure we gave them all out that very night when he brought them. At the Pantry we also attempted to minister to our visitors by inviting them to church or by asking for prayer needs,one of which of course, was food. My husband shared with me that Mr Lockler told him one time,the way he felt about Pantries was: we have to feed their bellies first and then we can save their souls! He was a person that cared about the needs of others, and was determined to do something about it.
There are so many memories, especially when I was around 6-8 years old because we lived so close to Aunt Margaret and Uncle D. My favorite memory was going to their house eating his homemade fudge - it was wonderful! The other memory I have, like it happened yesterday, was getting my throat "swabbed" by some concoction that Uncle D conjured up. There were five kids in my family and my parents would take us over to their house - we would line-up and Uncle D would swab all our throats (if one was getting a sore throat, the others were soon to follow). The thing about this is...it worked! Uncle D always doted over Aunt Margaret. I think she needed that and I think he loved doing it. He was a good man and he will be greatly missed. To my cousins and the rest of the family - I love you and I feel your grief. Please take comfort in knowing that he is, again, with the "love of his life"!
Our love, thoughts, and prayers are with you all. Uncle D will be surely missed, but the memories will carry on.
