Joe Rex Tillery's Obituary
Joe Rex Tillery, 77, passed away from his battle with cancer on Monday June 23, 2014 at his home in Baytown, Texas. He was born on July 11, 1936 in Malvern, Arkansas to John Lee Tillery and Ollie (Scott) Tillery.
Joe grew up beginning in Malvern, Arkansas; then moved to Jacinto City, Texas. He graduated from Galena Park High School in Jacinto City, Texas in 1954. After high school he:
• He attended college at University of Houston from 1965-66 where he received an Associates of Art degree.
• He joined the Marines in 1955 and served for 4 years. He served his first two years as Infantry, and was promoted to Drill Instructor for the remainder of his service. He was honorably discharged in 1959, achieving the rank of Sargent.
• He began work for Arco as an instrumentation tech, then moved to several other oil/gas companies during the next several years including spending time in Ecuador for work. He finally moved to the Bayer plant in Baytown where he finished his career as an instrumentation supervisor and he retired in 1996. • He then bought several self-serve car washes in the Baytown area and ran them until 2011.
Joe married Luiza Ingeborg Wider in December 6, 1964 in Houston, Texas. Joe was a member of the national beekeepers association. He enjoyed beekeeping, music and art, painting, anything electronic, spending time with his family, always trying new restaurants, his pets, gardening, growing orchids, bird watching, and constantly looking for great deals for "unique" items on ebay. Joe was preceded in death by his parents John Lee Tillery, Ollie Tillery, his brother John Lee Tillery, his sisters Juanita Echols and Leatha Leahman.
Joe was extremely loving and proud of his son Albert Lee Tillery of Channelview Texas, and his daughter Alissa Glyn Clark and her husband Jerry, of Dayton, Texas. He is also survived by his wife Luiza Ingeborg Tillery of Houston, Texas; his brother Elton Tillery and his wife Berlin, of Indian Shores,Texas, his brother Reese Tillery and his wife Kate, of Deer Park, Texas, and his sister Vada Thompson and her husband Ed, of Mont Belvieu, Texas. He was especially proud of his grandchildren Brittnee Nachole Tillery, Michael Christian Clark, Josselyn Denise Clark, Shelby Lynn Clark; as well as many loving nieces and nephews and other relatives.
