Joe Newman Parker April 6, 1933 to December 19, 2011
On December 19, 2011 Joe Newman Parker peacefully slipped from this world to join his savior in Heaven. He was born the youngest child and only son of Marshall A. and Sybil Ozell Parker on April 6, 1933 in North Zulch, Texas. Upon graduation from North Zulch High School he moved to Houston and began a long career with Southern Pacific Railroad. He held many positions and retired as Head Statistician after 44 years. He will be remembered as a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, where he met and married his wife of over 57 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacinto City for many years where he served on the Youth Committee. He returned to Faith Memorial in the late 80's where he served his church as Deacon and Church Treasurer. In 2006, he and his wife relocated to College Station where they became members of First Baptist Church of College Station.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Jewel Parker, Son, Kevin Parker and his partner Aaron Hodges, of College Station, a sister, Mildred Moseley of North Zulch, Nieces, Linda Webb and husband Bob, of North Zulch and Charlotte Wilson and husband Billy, of Madisonville, Don Mallett and wife Pat, of Houston, Sandra Pfeil and husband Jim, of Willis, Jackie Mallett of Houston, Jesse Franklin King IV, of Germany/Houston, Daniel Lee King, of Austin, Virgil King, of Matagorda and many great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and many church youth that considered him a father. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Joe Newman Parker, Jr. and Marshall Dennis Parker, and Sister Inez Mallett.
Pall bearers for Joe Newman will be nephews, Don Mallett, Billy Wilson, and Jim Pfeil, longtime friends Marcus Owings, Edward Gammon and Mike Rhodes. Honorary Pall bearers will be nephew, Bob Webb and Jesse Franklin King, IV, friends, David Martin, James Williams, Jack Titsworth, R.D. Radican, Buddy Bowen and Benjamin Lindamood.
Joe Newman will be remembered in a service by Bro. James Morris, pastor of Faith Memorial Baptist Church, at the San Jacinto Memorial Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.
