Jerry Floyd Mitchell, age 78, recently from Shreveport, Louisiana, passed from this life on March 3, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born to Raymond Thurman Mitchell, Sr. and Ora Leodia Shaw Mitchell on October 21, 1947, in Houston, Texas.
Jerry was a cherished husband to Sandra Jean Perry Mitchell for 48 years, until Sandra’s death August 9, 2018. He was a devoted Father to 4 daughters, Grandfather to 6, and Great Grandfather to 8.
Jerry is survived by a loving family that includes two Daughters Pamela Annette Mitchell Hodges of Shreveport, Louisiana (husband Ronald Duane Hodges) and Christina Renee Mitchell Meredith of Mont Belvieu, Texas (husband David Robert Meredith). 6 Grandchildren, Jacob Taylor Wolfe, Devyn Mitchell Osteen, Nicolas Duane Hodges (Chelsea), Makayla Annette Hodges Ivy (Hunter), Madisyn Christine Kelley Rankin (Joseph), and Allison Renee Meredith. 8 Great Grandchildren, Elora Elisabeth Hodges, Cayson Duane Hodges, Elijah Cole Ivy, Brooks Erickson Ivy, Axel Bailey Ivy, Dempsey Annette Ivy, Jaxsyn Michael Rankin, Delaney Jean Rankin. 1 Sister, Zanetta Jean Mitchell Perry of Hockley, Texas (husband Stephen Lynn Perry). Numerous nieces and nephews from his very large family also survive Jerry.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Sandra Jean Perry Mitchell; 2 Daughters, Lyndia Ann Means and Susan Ann Mitchell; Father, Raymond Thurman “RT” Mitchell, Sr., Mother, Ora Leodia Shaw Mitchell; 4 Brothers, Raymond “Thurman” Mitchell, Jr., Kenneth Cleveland Mitchell, Bobby Wallace Mitchell, Sr., and Charles Allen Mitchell.
Jerry graduated from Ebbert L. Furr High School, Songwood, Houston, Texas in 1967. He married Sandra Jean Perry on February 16, 1970, in Washington County, Texas. During his long work career in Houston, he worked for Saks Grocery Store in Greens Bayou, Platzer Shipyard, Bloodworth Shipyard, Whites Department Store, US Steel, Arco Chemical Company which later became Lyondell Chemical Company from which he retired.
Jerry loved his family and enjoyed the times they had together. He will be greatly missed by all who know him, especially his family. He was dearly loved.
Services will be Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at San Jacinto Memorial Funeral Home, 14659 East Freeway, Houston, Texas. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with Service 11:30 AM to 12:30 and the Interment will follow at 1:00 PM in San Jacinto Memorial Park.
