Ira Edward Atkinson's Obituary
Ira Edward Atkinson, age 89, of Porter, Tx. passed away September 7, 2021. He was born November 9, 1931 in Trinity, TX to Benjamin H. and Beulah A.(Calvert) Atkinson.
He served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed being stationed in Alaska. After his service, he settled in the Houston area and went to work as an operator for the Goodyear Tire Company from 1957 until retirement. He was a member of the Good Sam’s RV Club and The Retreads Motorcycle Club. He also was instrumental in forming The Goodyear Retirement Club.
He was survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Laura Ann (Carl) Woodrome Atkinson. One brother - Charles Ray Atkinson. Children - Lorena (Cannon) Newton, Kathy (Woodrome) Gibson, Carolyn (Woodrome) Glaze, Sherrie (Woodrome) Ewings and Gwendolyn Woodrome. He had many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife of 37 years Donna (Wood) Atkinson, brothers Cleon Atkinson, Leroy Atkinson, and O’Neal Atkinson. Children: Hugh “Scooter” Cannon, Ricky Atkinson, Ronnie Atkinson, Donna (Cannon) Bundrick and granddaughter Sandra Nicole Angelo.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 12pm at San Jacinto Funeral Home, 14659 East Freeway, Houston, Tx 77015 Immediately followed by funeral services at 1pm and a grave side service and internment at 2:30pm. After the grave side service the family invites you to join them for dinner at the First Baptist Church of Porter.
