Mrs. Hellon Marie Cook McDowell's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Hellon Marie Cook McDowell
Mrs. Hellon Marie Cook McDowell came into this world in Ranburne Alabama on December 10, 1940. She was the 5th of 14 children to bless the lives of her parents Ethal Mae Buchanan and John Caldon Cook. Hellon was a very much loved person. She was known for her extremely loving and compassionate nature. She was honest and hopeful and a true believer in Christ.
Hellon had a tremendous work ethic and it was this hard working nature that made her a successful Hostess with Dunkin Donuts in the 70’s and to her owning two shops of her own. One being County Cooking Restaurant in Mount Belvieu and the other was a Donut Shop in LaGrange, Georgia. Hellon also worked for Alloys-Crows gas Station.
Hellon loved her family and friends more than words can express…
In 2002 Hellon retired and started taking care of three elderly friends in the neighborhood: Maxine Wilson, Pat and Marion Coughman. In 2008 she moved to the Highland area, but prior to that she spent more than 40 years in Baytown.
While taking a leap of faith and opening her 1st donut shop was an important event in her life…the most important events all had to do with her becoming a wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Some of Hellon’s favorite hobbies and activities including watching her “Soaps” getting her hair done, taking care of her animals: Babygirl, Pug and Bella, and of course listening to some great country music such as Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash.
Sadly, Hellon was called to heaven on April 6, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband Olin R. McDowell. Hellon is survived by her Children : Dale and wife Joce McDowell, Sherry and husband Erik Stephens, Ricky and wife Lisa McDowell, and Janis and husband Dan Heeth, Grandchildren: Danny Hamilton, Brandy Barlow, Heather Wright, Tiffiny Lipford and husband Harry, Jos Bowen, Kevin Stephens, Erika Baker, Rachael Butler and husband Reggie, Anthony Schotze, Emmalee Steel and husband Jamie, and Philip Ligget; Great-grandchildren Bradley Barlo, Brooklynn Barlow, Grace Baker, Ryler Butler, James Steele, and Greyson Steele; and the rest of her extended family.
