Mr. Glen Matthews' Obituary
Retired Sergeant Glen Matthews passed away peacefully, on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at the age of 66, while delivering the Lord’s message at Sunday service. He was born October 2, 1950, in Houston, Texas. He proudly joined the Houston Police Department on June 5, 1978, Academy Class #82. During his career with the Houston Police Department he was assigned to the Northeast Division, the Traffic and Accident Division, Juvenile Division, Homicide Division, Southeast Division, and South Gessner Division. Sgt. Matthews retired in October of 2002.
Glen became an ordained minister in 2013. Glen loved the water, he enjoyed sailing and fishing, as well as playing golf. He enjoyed raising and showing horses, as well as judging horse shows. Glen and Paula moved to Fairfield, Texas for their business, Glen Oaks Miniature Horse Ranch. Glen was an AMHA Show Judge since 2008.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Matthews.
He is survived by his wife, Retired Police Officer Paula C. Matthews, along with daughters Rene’ and Clint Talley of Splendora, Texas, Kylee and Micah Garza of College Station, Texas, and Alice Matthews of League City, Texas; grandchildren Rachel Talley and Chris Talley, Glen Davenport, Paul Gennussa, Tristan Morgan and Alice Bush, and one great-grandchild, Morgan Grace.
A visitation will be held before the Funeral Services at Freeway Manor Baptist Church, 2300 Rodney Street, Houston, Texas 77034 (713) 944-0000, on Thursday, January 5, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will start at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park, 14659 East Freeway, Houston, Texas 77015 (832) 872-2133.
