Mr. George Andrew Zevik's Obituary
George Andrew Zevik, 77, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012 following a brief illenss. He was born April 23, 1935 in Mentor, Minnesota to Prokop and Olga (Woznick) Zevik. Mr. Zevik is survived by his son David Zevik; grandson Josh Zevik; brothers Lawrence and Fred Zevik and his sister Lillian Jolliffe; and numerous nieces and newphews. George was a hard working young man who married, became a father, and a grandfather. He worked two jobs to take care of his family. In Oregon he was both an Iron Worker and Service Station Attendant and cared for his aging mother before moving to Texas. After retiring from his job twice he decided he didnt like the cold, wet, foggy winters in Oregon and moved to Houston and made Channelview his home. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming a graduate of The Houston Citizens Police Academy, Class #33. Following graduation he became an active fundraiser volunteering for injured/sick police officers or surviving family members. His first year as an Alumni Member he became Store Captain for the annual La Comida Food Drive sponsored by the Houston Police Department. He was so proud of being Store Captain, he would have a stomping fit if an officer indicated he wasn't the Store Captain...he would pout like a child until convinced it was in jest. George loved family reunions in the Dakotas where he became re-acquainted with cousins. During the silent auctions George did battle with cousin Todd who was always putting George's name on merchandise and then having to pay when the auction closed put a big hurt on his wallet. A faithful member of Dell Dale Avenue Baptist Church, he accepted Christ through the Living Waters of Baptism. He attended services first with a borrowed bible then had his own which he wore out and got another. George loved going to church to learn about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, knowing that some day he would meet Him face to face. Many of George's neighbors regularly saw him walking with his little dog Dixie. She was his constant companion and when George had steak at a restaurant, he always got a T-Bone so he could share with Dixie. Once Dixie got that bone, you better not dare move it. She knew exactly where she dropped it. Dixie ate what George did whether it was potatoes, cottage cheese, watermelon or ice cream she waited for her share. When George became ill in September and had surgery Dixie didnt seem to understand why whe wasn't getting the usual loving attention. Now Dixie has a new home with her little doggie relatives. A Celebration of Life will be held for George on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Dell Dale Avenue Baptist Church, 402 Dell Dale Avenue, Channelview,TX 77530 with Bro. Bobby Powell officiating. It was George's direction that he be cremated and his cremated remains scattered in the Pacific Ocean. For those desiring the family suggest memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society.
