George was a man who seemed to know what his purpose in life was.
He gave his all for the animals he cared so deeply for. When I ask for help
in finding a home for a large dog, he never hesitated and said we will get it done,
and we did. We already miss him but I am sure he's watching over New Dawn.
Sincerely, Wanda Smith
George was bigger than life - he will be greatly missed! He was the most wonderful volunteer at a New Dawn. His movie buddy (Ben) will surely miss him. I used to chuckle at George at New Dawn. He could put dogs together to play (which used to scare me) - and those dogs would growl for a couple of seconds, then they got along. He was a true "dog whisperer" (well, maybe a little louder than a whisperer as we all know George did not whisper!). George, please continue to guide Dawn and her volunteers from above. Love, Pam and Ben
I got to know George as a kid growing up in Jacinto City (Jacina City). Sometimes we played pickup basketball or football. George could appear loud and boisterous but the truth is that on many occasions I saw his kind heart. I will miss his "dog" posts on facebook. He will be missed.

I’ve worked with George for so many years and we have had so many laughs and great times together!! He is a lover of lemon icebox pie and banana pudding which I made for my husband and him on numerous occasions! They were shift mates at work! We shared many recipes and he absolutely loved his sisters cooking!! My first encounter with George was when he slammed a volleyball into my face and it wasn’t until a few years later that we ended up working together and he thought I would never forgive him....well how could you not forgive such a teddy bear!!! George, you will be missed so much!! I hope you are at peace with the good Lord and your parents!! RIP my dear sweet friend!! Love you!! Nancy Kyle
I think I only met George one time but we were always sharing jokes and memories through Mary Beth so I feel like I know where he was coming from. My heart and my prayers go to Mary Beth and her family . Tom Trigger
Its hard to say goodby to someone so loved but I am grateful for the memories. The thought if you will forever make me smile. Love to all the family. Your loving cousin, Linda
You will be dearly missed. We’ve had some good times at Nany and Papa house growing up, camping at Garner as young kids, camping in Galveston for many years with Aunt Lola-Marybeth-Joyce having fish fry-special tuna fish-telling jokes and laughing-making bets over George Strait, and I’m remembering the horse arena back in the day riding horses. Love you cousin and will miss you. You are now with all of our family angels in heaven. My heart goes out to Marybeth, Jerry, Pam and all 3 boys.
