Mr. Gene W. Newman's Obituary
On 8/9/18 the earth lost one of the hardest working men ever, Gene W Newman. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His passions included hunting, gardening, chocolate milk with homemade vanilla Blue Bell ice cream, listening to hillbilly music, watching John Wayne westerns and fixing stuff. Gene was a steel worker by trade but also a auto mechanic at the family owned Mobil (then Conoco) Service Station on the corner of I-10 and Kress St. He loved to meet people and never met a stranger.
He was born in Quitman, Texas on March 24, 1931 and passed away in Houston, Texas on August 9, 2018.
Preceded in death by parents, Joe and Vallie Newman, wife, Dorothy Newman, brothers, Billy Joe and Ewell Newman Sr.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda, daughter and son in law, Sheila and Kelly Brown. Grandchildren Tyler Brown, Ashley Dixon and Gabby Brown. Great Grandchildren Mason Dixon and Marilyn Dixon. Many nieces, nephews and friends.
