Fitzroy Edwards' Obituary
With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Mr. Fitzroy Edwards Sr., age 84, of Houston, Texas, who departed this life on June 8, 2025. He was born on April 30, 1941, to Jeremiah Edwards and Evelyn Findlay in St. Mary Parish, Jamaica, West Indies.
Fitzroy’s journey began in the hills of Troja, St. Catherine, where he attended primary school and later graduated from Kingsway High School in Kingston. Gifted with ambition and leadership, he pursued a career in pest control, quickly rising into management—a path that would define his professional legacy.
In 1965, he married his beloved first wife, Dorothy Elaine Marshall, in Kingston, Jamaica. Together, they built a family full of love, faith, and resilience, raising three children. After migrating to the United States, Fitzroy joined Orkin Exterminating in 1970 and remained until the early 1980s. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found RIDCO Pest Control with partners George Wiley and Steve Forrest—a business he nurtured faithfully for decades.
A man of deep fraternity and spiritual conviction, Fitzroy was a devoted member of the Southern Star Of Solomon's Cloister Lodge #18, where he twice served as Worshipful Master, as well as Chaplain and Lecture Master. His wisdom, dignity, and unwavering dedication to his community earned him profound respect.
He had a sharp wit, a warm laugh, and an unshakeable love for the Houston Astros, classic westerns, and a competitive game of dominoes. Life brought him a second chapter of companionship when he wed Brenda Lawrence on October 11, 2013.
Fitzroy is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Lawrence of Houston, Texas; daughter, Grace Edwards-Young and son-in-law, Kevin Robert Young of Methuen, Massachusetts; son, Lynton Wayne Edwards Sr. and daughter-in-law, Shantel Thomas Edwards of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, Lynton Edwards Jr., Logann Edwards, and Laila Edwards. He also leaves behind his sisters, Eulalee (Ina) Dobney of Bronx, New York, and Cislyn (Patsy) Taffe of Jamaica, West Indies.
Through marriage, he embraced children Tracye Lawrence and DeWayne Gross, and cherished grandchildren by marriage: Necole Caldwell (Chris), Adrianna Bowers (Mark), Gabriel Love, Altonette Love, Tabatha Love, Marquez Brown, Kia Hicks and Larry Gross.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Elaine Edwards, son Fitzroy Anthony Edwards Jr., brothers Aston and Vincent Edwards, sisters Miriam, Hazel, Ilyn Greene, and Babsilyn Edwards, and daughter by marriage Tandera Hicks (spouse LP Hicks).
Fitzroy’s legacy is one of strength, faith, family, and fierce love. He was a pillar to all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
