Elizabeth (Betty) Lauland Ostermayer's Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Lauland Ostermayer, 93, of Baytown, Tx, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Betty entered the world on October 3, 1930 in Baytown, as the second of 5 daughters born to Walter Edward Lauland and Bessie Victoria (Toups) Lauland. Betty was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. The Laulands were a musical family. Betty and her sisters were all gifted singers and often performed songs together and with their father. Betty sang in the choir at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and at civic functions in Baytown. The musical genes that ran in her family were strong, and Betty passed them on to her children and grandchildren.
After high school, Betty completed a secretarial course and began working as a secretary at Humble Oil. In 1949 she attended a church party for singles, where she met Paul Ostermayer, a Humble Oil engineer. They were married in 1950 and welcomed their first child, Paul, the following year. Paul was followed by Mary, Edward, and Anne in 1952, 1955, and 1959 respectively.
Betty was a devoted mother and homemaker. The pillars of her life were her family and her church, where she was a longstanding member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. She contributed to her community as a Little League director and as area captain of the Birth Defects March. She was the center of care for the family, tending her father during his final illness. Betty’s hobbies included gardening, boating, shrimping, and cooking. She loved to sing but also enjoyed expressing her creative talents through drawing and watercolors. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul Ostermayer, her daughter, Mary Ostermayer Manning, and son, Edward Ostermayer, her sister Margaret (Peggy) Lauland McElhannon, sister Carolyn Lauland Baker, and sister Imogene Lauland Yozzo. Betty is survived by her son Paul Ostermayer Jr and wife, Fiona Ostermayer, her daughter, Anne Ostermayer Bermudez, and husband, Fernando Bermudez, her son-in-law, Roger Manning, her grandchildren, Sarah Manning McGarry, and husband Kevin McGarry, Victoria Manning, Alicia Bermudez, Berrielle Ostermayer, and Ian Ostermayer, her great-grandchildren, Owen and Donovan McGarry, and Riot and Scarlet Stokes, and her sister Normagene Lauland Griggs.
