Mrs. Edith Oleata Hutson Tolley's Obituary
Edith Oleata Hutson Tolley, 94, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Park Manor Nursing Home of natural causes. Edith was born on June 14, 1920 in Platter, Oklahoma to Martin Ramsey Hutson and Rebecca Melnettie Lamb Hutson. She was the oldest of 11 children. She married Benjamin Franklin Tolley on June 10, 1939. Edith had 4 children (twins) Emmett Royce, Evelyn Joyce, Louis Edward and Katherine Ray.
For most of her life, she was a homemaker and mother, during WW II she worked in an egg breaking and powdering plant like many housewives to support the war effort, and in her late years she worked for Ronnie’s Food Centers in the deli. She enjoyed her time as a Sunday school teacher at Cloverleaf Baptist Church for both the young and the old. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and puzzle books in her free time. She was a member of the Oddfellows & Rebekkah Lodge where she held many offices.
She is survived by her son Ed and wife Judy Tolley; grandchildren Dawn Riggenbach, Kirk Arb, Kendra Conroy, Krystal Campbell and their spouses.She also had many great and great-great grandchildren. Edith is predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Frank Tolley, her children Emmett, Evelyn, and Katherine; her parents and siblings, Hugh Hutson, Harrell Hutson, Roy Hutson, Lonnell Hutson, Sylvia Hopkins, and Floyd Hutson.
Services will be held at San Jacinto Funeral Home at 14659 East Freeway, Houston, Texas 77015 on Thursday, February 19, 2015. Viewing is at 10:00 am, and funeral at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the New Century Hospice located at One Sugar Creek Center Blvd. Ste., 330, Sugar Land, Texas 77478 or your favorite charity in honor of Edith Tolley.
