E. Rex Smith Jr's Obituary
E. Rex Smith, Jr., a gallant US Air Force Pilot who bravely served during WWII, took his final flight into the eternal skies on April 24, 2024. His wings may be stilled, but his legacy of valor and love will forever soar in the hearts of those he touched.
Born in Wichita, Kansas on April 10, 1925, to E. Rex Smith Sr. and Emma Tarr, Rex inherited a passion for aviation that guided him throughout his illustrious career. His dedication to duty was matched only by his devotion to his beloved wife of 35 years, Consuelo Smith, whom he showered with adoration and affection.
In addition to his beloved wife, Rex leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with love and laughter. He found solace in the skies, reveling in the freedom of flight aboard his Mooney M20, and found peace in the tranquility of outdoor fishing and hiking adventures.
Rex was not only a devoted husband but a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents E. Rex Smith Sr. and Emma Tarr and joins them in afterlife, alongside his sister Ramona Lee Dixon and husband Leonard, brother Jack Smith, and son Carlos Alvarez.
Rex’s memory will be forever cherished by his children: DeDona Zizzo and her husband Tony, E. Rex Smith III, Rick Smith, Kenneth Engler, Claudia Pardivala and husband Darayus, Monica Vargas and husband Henry, and Marcelo Alvarez and wife Lin. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Brandon, Mitch, Mallory, Dominic, Natalie, Nina, Daisy, Cristian, Michelle, and Ethan, and great-grandchildren, Alisha and Bennet Rex, as well as great-great grandchildren: Paisley, Aubrey, and Hudson who will carry on his legacy of love and courage.
Though Rex may have taken his final flight, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him. May his memory be a beacon of hope in the midst of sorrow, guiding us through the darkness with the light of his enduring love.
