Doree, Donnie Marie's Obituary
Donnie Doree, 90, passed away on September 7, 2024, following a sudden decline in health.
While our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in knowing she is no longer in pain.
Donnie was born on February 16, 1934, in Houston, TX to Russell and Nadie Barlow. She was
preceded in death by her parents, her son Benton Earl Parrish Jr. (Benny), her granddaughter
Julia Drott, her grandson Daniel Parrish, and her brother Russell Barlow Jr.
She is survived by her loving children VeeAnn Twing and husband Joe, Rita Ellis and husband
Emory, David Andrews and wife Brenda, and Jalana Drott and husband David. She also leaves
behind her grandchildren Angel Parrish, Shellie Parrish, Amy Weir, Jonathan Twing, Brooke
Twing, Jacob Ellis, Kyle Cohen, Allison Caronongan, Blake Andrews, Zackary Andrews, Sydney
Drott, and Conor Drott, as well as her great-grandchildren Michael Parrish, Joshua Vrana,
Christopher Vrana, Madie Weir, Elizabeth Vrana, Andrew Andrews, Derec Twing, Devyn Twing,
Gianna Cohen, Hazel Ellis, Franco Cohen, and Riley Andrews. Her legacy also includes her
great-great-grandchildren Preston Vrana, Paxton Vrana, Asher Vrana along with her
brother Fred Barlow, and beloved niece Freida Barlow.
A formidable woman, Donnie battled breast cancer at the age of 73 and lived independently until her passing. She began her career in accounting with Armco Steel and retired from Kroger
at an early age, but her work ethic and spirit were evident in everything she did.
In her retirement, Donnie embraced life fully. She loved spending time with family, traveling with
friends, and indulging in her many passions. She created beautiful embroidered quilts, was an
enthusiastic dancer, and enjoyed weekly bingo games. An avid reader, she had read over 1,000
books.
A memorial service will be held on September 28, 2024, at San Jacinto Memorial Funeral
Home, 14659 East Freeway Houston, TX, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with her graveside inurnment scheduled at 1:00 PM.
Donnie will be remembered for her strength, creativity, and the love she shared with all who
knew her.
