Dixie Lee Laake, 67, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 25, 1957, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Jerry Lynn and Beullah Faye Hamilton, Dixie lived a life full of love, adventure, and generosity.
On September 19, 1974, Dixie married the love of her life, James Matthew Laake, embarking on a journey filled with joy and devotion. Together, they created a beautiful family and shared countless memories.
Dixie had a unique zest for life and a knack for finding treasures in unexpected places, often indulging in her favorite pastime of dumpster diving behind various stores. Her artistic spirit shone through in her love for painting and polishing rocks, and she captured the world through her lens as an avid photographer.
Dixie was also a passionate angler, seizing every opportunity to fish and enjoy the tranquility of nature.
Her heart was as vast as her interests. Dixie was known for her boundless generosity, always ready to give the shirt off her back or her last dollar to anyone in need. She was an avid Barbie collector and a devoted Star Trek fan, with a special fondness for all things alien. Her cherished baby doll, Josie, was a constant companion.
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry Lynn and Beullah Faye Hamilton, and her sister, Vicki Lee Harvey. She is now reunited in eternity with her beloved James.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Jerry Laake and his partner Robyn Meeks, Jessica Laake, Aaron Laake and his wife Marie, Isaac Laake, and Chris Rogers and his wife Kitty. Dixie is also survived by her brother, Rick Lynn Hamilton and his wife Margie, and her treasured grandchildren: Serinity, Keagen, Koti, Chase, Bryce, Keri, Levi, Arik, Pawnee, Genesis, and Haven. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
Dixie's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and the joy of simple pleasures. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
