Derek Lamont Mayo's Obituary
Derek Lamont Mayo was born to the late Joseph William Mayo Jr. & Rosa Lee (Purvis) Mayo on June 9, 1969 in Newark, New Jersey.
Derek created his 1st run of numbered comic books on notebook paper, "The Adventures of Super Sox", at age 12, lasting 17 issues from 1982-1983. He completed his 1st graphic novel, "Super Sox: The Search for the Ice", at age 16. This passion continued throughout the 80s & 90s as he continuously improved his skills, becoming an expert in every aspect of comic creation, from pencils to inking, coloring, lettering, writing, backgrounds, & design. In the late 90s, Derek took a break from his artwork to focus on professional dancing & music. He returned to his comic book roots in the early 20-teens with his live-action paper puppet comic-style cartoon web series, "High Drawma." He has made 2 independent music albums in the past decade, & was working on a 3rd, releasing the lead single just a few months ago.
